Cinque Terre is a group of 5 coastal villages on the Italian coast, connected by a series of spectacular walking tracks, a trainline and hordes of tourists.

Opatija is in western Croatia, on the Adriatic, and is a lovely old resort town. The statue is the "Lady with the seagull" (or two seagulls in this case).

90 Euros for a tacky gondola ride complete with serenading gondolier? I don't think so. But we did take the traghetto - a 50 cent gondola ride across the grand canal (in a much more utilitarian gondola than this one). The locals all stand and look cool - one even read his newspaper.
